Harriet Hill was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and moved with her family to British  Columbia, Canada where she has resided since 1963. She now lives in Burnaby where she works from her home studio. Harriet earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of of British Columbia in 1974 and a teaching certificate from Simon Fraser University in 1975.

Harriet began her career as an elementary school teacher, where she incorporated art and music into her teaching. She was dedicated to helping students discover and nurture their own creative potential. Beyond the classroom, Harriet also contributed to creative projects: creating props for school musicals, designing headpieces for ballet performances, which fostered her joy in creative expression.

In 1994, Harriet began exploring watercolour painting and transitioned to acrylics in 2019, discovering a love for their vibrant colours and versatility. She focuses on abstract art, often inspired by the natural world and her musical background. Under mentorship, she continues to develop her style which reflects her passion for colour

One of Harriet’s series, Elements of  Laughter, is installed in an SFU office in downtown Vancouver. Her paintings on this website can be viewed by appointment.
